Halloween Movie LOVE

Friday, October 31st, 2014

It’s one of my favourite times of year, Halloween!!! We love this Holiday more than any other. Everything about it: the dressing up, the sweet treats, the movies. We really cant get enough Halloween love at DIY Nails HQ. So to celebrate we decided to come up with a spooktastic list of our fav movies to get you in the Halloween spirit. There is a little bit for everyone, at DIY Nails we understand that some of you are not a fan of movies of the horror persuasion. So we have included some of the softer movies with that splash of Halloween goodness. We even decided to style each movie with the perfect set of DIY Nail decals perfectly inspired by the characters themselves. Ok yeah we just wanted to sit and gossip abut which decals Wednesday Addams would wear! Do you blame us?

Hocus Pocus

HOCUS POCUS, Kathy Najimy, Bette Midler, Sarah Jessica Parker, 1993

So first up is our fav witchy trio. The Sanderson Sisters in Hocus Pocus. Nothing fills me with more Halloween spirit that this be-witching cult classic. The ICON Bette Midler, Kathy Najimy and Sarah Jessica Parker star as Winnie, Mary and Sarah Sanderson. A coven of witches from 1693 who in an attempt to regain their youth aim to absorb the life force of local children in Salem, Massachusetts through their witchcraft. Lets just say all does not go well, and fast forward to the early nighties. And the witches are back for one night, standing in their way is teenager Max Dennison and his sister Dani (a very young Thora Birch) and their kitty sidekick Thackery Binx.

Best Bit:  When the Sanderson Sister perform the song “I Put a Spell on You”

BMM Team

With all the symbolism we thing our DIY Nail collaboration with Bloody Mary Metal would be perfect for The Sanderson Sister.

The Addams Family

So we couldn’t really talk about Halloween movies without mentioning ‘The Addams Family’ could we. Its probably inspired more Halloween costumes then any other movie ever. I mean everyone in their right mind has dressed up as Wednesday Addams at some point in their lives. Right? So to clarify we are talking about the 1991 movie ‘The Addams Family’ as there as been many variations of The Addams Family franchise. But no body will ever beat ‘The Addams Family’ and the AMAZING sequel ‘Addams Family Values’. For every little goth kid that enjoyed the darker things in life. The Addams Family was a staple movie favourite. Following the lives of the Addams Family a loving all be it slightly strange family. From the super chic mother Morticia played by the one and only Anjelica Huston, the devoted dad Gomez, Uncle Fester(and you think your uncle is weird) and their children Pugsley and off-course Wednesday Addams played by Christina Ricci.

Best Bit: The theme song ‘They’re creepy and they’re kooky, Mysterious and spooky, They’re all together ooky, The Addams Family.’

Hand To Eye

So show some love for ‘Thing’ with our ‘Hand To Eye‘ decals, available from pour website.

Buffy the Vampire Slayer

So when you say Buffy the Vampire Slayer most people expect to see Miss SMG(aka Sarah Michelle Gellar) in her iconic role of Buffy Summers in the mid to late ninetiesTV show. But alas this wasn’t the first appearance of the teen vampire slayer. The original Buffy came in the form of a little know actress Kristy Swanson in the 1992 cult classic film, Buffy the Vampire Slayer. Now don’t get me wrong i cannot express the love I have for Buffy the TV show. But trust me on this; the original movie is such an amazing camp classic staring some very young recognisable faces such as 90s heartthrob Luke Perry,  Donald Sutherland, David Arquette and Hilary Swank. This early film version takes Buffy the California valley girl to a whole new level and if you are expecting Buffy the TV show level vampires well you will be sadly disappointed cos these vampires are so rubbish they are amazing. Oh yeah another plus of this film is the outfits are soooo good.

Best Bit: When the vampires attack the prom, its so funny! And LUKE PERRY

“Does the word “duh” mean anything to you?” Like Duh, of course Buffy would wear our ‘candy‘ decals

Last up in our Halloween movie playlist is our fav slasher flick ‘Scream’. This 1996 movie changed the world of horror/thriller movies creating a truly modern slasher film for the internet generation. Breathing life back into a dying style of movie.  Directed by the horror legend Wes Craven and staring Neve Campbell, Courteney Cox, Drew Barrymore, David Arquette and Rose McGowan as the icon of Tatum Riley. Scream follows Sidney Prescott, a high school student in the fictional town of Woodsboro, who becomes the target of a mysterious killer known as Ghostface. Based partly on the real-life serial killer the Gainesville Ripper. Ghostface terrorises this small town and shock everyone is a suspect!

Best Bit: Well there is tow of the best death scenes EVER! The first person to die, and the legendary death in the garage door. No names tho don’t want to spoil anything.

With a killer called ‘Ghostface’ how could we not make the ‘Scream’ decals our Halloween set available from our website.
