Ellie Munro: Vintage

Wednesday, August 20th, 2014

We’re all about celebrating creativity and individuality here at DIY Nails. Our designs create endless nail art opportunities and we just love seeing the way our customers style their decals. Since you lot seem to do a much better job at taking photos of your nails than we ever could, we’ve decided to gift a set of decals to girls (and boys!) who embody each of our sets in return for photos to plaster all over social media, fully credited obz. Details on how you can get involved can be found below.

It wasn’t hard to pick our first post. When we designed our Vintage set there was one girl we had in mind; that girl was the beautiful Ellie Munro.

“Ellie is a twenty three year old Glaswegian with a penchant for felines, thrifting, conceptual portraiture and fine art photography.”

The floral Victorian scrapbook images were the perfect addition to her to-die-for vintage wardrobe and she takes the most amazing photographs (recently published by IN BLOOM). So yeah, here’s Ellie wearing our decals.

If you want to bag a free set of decals and recon you’ve got what it takes to be our next feature then we want to hear from you!

Email with the subject “Guest Post”. Include the name of the decal set you would like to work with (subject to availability), links to your blog/website and social media handles so we can have a sneak peek at your style. We really appreciate a well painted nail and if you make us laugh then you’re in! Can’t wait to hear from you.

Vintage decals can be bought from our website for £6.

Boys can wear nail art too!

As you may or may not know, I sometimes tutor at The Academy Of Make-up in Glasgow. The Academy is run by one of my favourite people in the world, Sara Hill, who also happens to be Editor In Chief of Hope St.

“The Academy of Make-up is like no other school, it’s a home for creative minds who love fashion, make-up and hair styling to come together, learn and have fun.”

I’ve taught a couple of nail art classes over the past year but my main gig is Male Manicures, which students learn during the Male Grooming Masterclass section of the Complete Pro Hair & Make-up course. My little portion of the day is always fun, but last week was the best yet! Half of the girls on the course were qualified nail techs so I decided to do things a little differently and focus on some nail/finger/hand art for photoshoots, for boys of course.

We played about with nail decals, temporary tattoos (leftovers from the Abandon Ship Girls event) and body paints. I’ve included a few photos so you can see that our decals actually look really cool on male nails! FYI – The amazing hand/finger art was created by Louise McGuire, cool huh?

Here’s some other photos of boys wearing our decals, if you know anyone who’d like to rock them and take some photos for us then get them to send an email to

A Nail Date with Karen Mabon

Monday, August 4th, 2014

We celebrated the launch of our Karen Mabon collaboration decals at House Of Fraser in Glasgow this weekend.

We had so much fun painting nails and decorating them with mini versions of Karen’s most popular scarf designs!

How do you wear you Karen Mabon decals? We loved them over candy base colours like Perf & Wavepool by Floss Gloss, and how sassy do the poodles look on a glittery french mani?

You can read more about our collaboration with Karen Mabon in our last blog post and buy the decals on our website now. Don’t forget to hashtag #karenmabonnails if you post a photo on Twitter or Instagram!
